The unit, which starts on November 12, will have 20 beds while the maximum stay could be for 72 hours.
Vigo Xeral Hospital will start from 12th November, 2013 as a short stay unit with 20 beds for the patients arriving either from the emergency or from the Home Care unit, and require a period of 24 to 72 hours to be stabilized and assess their situation.
This measure limits the time that these patients are in the emergency department and at the same time, it improves the comfort, as they have the comfort of being in a room while under observation and are tested to be examined by the available doctors.
This unit provides stays of up to 72 hours. After that time, the doctors will assess whether the patient can be discharged to go home or he/she should be admitted to the Home Care Unit, or pass by a conventional room on another floor of the hospital service.
The opening of this new service has been possible due to the rationalization of the gaps in the service of Gynecology and Obstetrics, since after detecting sustained decline bed occupancy of this service, on the second floor of Xeral has been rearranged resources for the short stay unit and can be installed in the plant.
